Hugh was a veteran of the Civil War and applied for a CSA pension in 1910. The family Bible of the Rev. Hugh Graham list his birthdate as 1826.
Hugh married 10 May, 1855 in Marion Co. to Mary Jane Broom, the daughter of John and Tabitha Courtney Broom. She was born 20 June, 1840 MS. and died 15 October, 1916 in Covington Co. MS.
Hugh and Mary Jane had a large family. There were at least fifteen children born to this couple. All of their children were born in Mississippi.
