Shadrach Allen
Craven Co. NC

Shadrach Allen, was the Joseph Allen of Craven Co. NC., and wife Martha? Shadrach lived in Craven Co. North Carolina and his will proven in March Court 1780 in Craven Co.

The will partically destroyed can be found at the State Archives in Raleigh, NC. Only part has been saved. However, you can tell he had two sons and one daughter, also mentions the name of his wife.

He mentions his wife, Jemima Allen, who is left a negro woman Sarah and four sons, and the plantation.

1. Daughter Sarah Allen, one negro woman and one bed, land joining David Smith's line.
2. Son John Allen, one negro primas, cows, one negro woman and three hundred acres of land
3. Son Shadrach Allen, every negro that is not mentioned in the above, also two beds and furniture. Shadrach, Executors (of my last will and testament)-my two sons John Allen and Shadrack Allen.

This Shadrach, son of Shadrach is not the individual who married Frances Loftin 27 July, 1801 in Craven Co. That Shadrack is the son of Joseph Allen, believed brother to Shadrack, Sr.

John Allen
Son of Shadrach Allen

This John Allen can be proven the son of Shadrach Allen of Craven Co. NC., by the will of his father Shadrach and naming his mother in his will. He also mentions his brother, Shadrach who is executor of the will.

The wife of John Allen was Ann Green Bryan. William Bryan in his will in Craven Co. names a daughter Ann, wife of John Allen. John married Ann October 1785 in Craven Co. The bond date was 9 October, 1785 and was by John Allen and his father, Shadrach Allen.

Since both sons were named Burton, there is surely a connection to the Burton family. Perhaps a maternal lineage.

1. Mary Allen
2. Burton Allen
3. John Burton Allen
